Chengdu Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone is made up of separate parks in the south and west portions of the city. The zone already is host to approximately 16,000 companies including SMIC, Unisem, SAP, and Intel. Businesses in the zone earned a total of more than RMB 10 billion in income in 2008, ranking fourth among China's state-level high tech zones.

Both the zone and the government offer incentives such as rent subsidies, tax rebates, and recruitment assistance to IT and financial services firms looking to set up there. There is a waste water treatment plant inside the park and facility for solid waste treatment.

The South Park is so named for its position slightly south of Chengdu's centre. It is within 10 kilometres of the Chengya Expressway as well as the Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport and will be with walking distance of the city's first subway line when it opens.

The zone's West Park, which has an export processing zone, a bonded logistics centre, and spaces for startup companies, is nearly 25 kilometres north of the Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport. The Chengguan Expressway runs through the park and the Chengpeng and Chengwenqiong Expressways are each 15 kilometres away from it.

In addition to its status as a national-level zone, Chengdu Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone has also been recognized as a National Model District by the central government.
